My promise

August 2008 will be my first Democratic National Convention. I really don't know what to expect. Whatever happens, I will share it with you. This blog will tell you what I've seen and done, to try to bring you as close to the experience of being there as I can. I'll try not to inject too many of my opinions, if possible. But I will be giving particular attention to gay and lesbian issues, especially those for us "love exiles" that live abroad to be with our non-US partners.

I hope you enjoy it!

Bob Bragar,
Delegate for Obama from Democrats Abroad

Amsterdam, NL

Bob, this is so exciting! I must admit that I didn't even realize that it was possible to be a delegate if you live abroad. In any event, I look forward to following your blog ... and I actually hope that you DO inject a lot of personal opinion into your commentary. Isn't that the point?

Best of luck and lots of love from Careen in New York.

Dear Bob, What a joy to know that you will be there to make it happen: the first black President of the USA. And what kind of President: the first former President of the Harvard Law Society who did not join a prestigious law firm, but chose to return to social work in Chicago. Who knows much more about the American people as they are, hope and dream, than any other candidate. Who knows more about the world, having lived in Jakarta as a nobody amidst local kids. Whose mother worked for Womens World Banking, so he knows about poverty and liberation. Joke and I did not believe that in our lifetime we would see a black American President with such a qualifying background. And you will make it happen...! You write that you will not inject too many of your own opinions. Come on, Bob, you have been chosen because of your opinions, and rightly so.

Don't ask what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country. Precisely this ! And not only for America, but for the world at large, that looks forward to a decent, honest President whose values can be shared.

Greetings and Hail to the Delegate!
Gert van Maanen
